What is CHAS accreditation?
CHAS is a UK contractor health and safety assessment scheme and an SSIP member. Clients use it to pre-qualify contractors, and CHAS accreditation is valid for 12 months from the date the certificate is issued.
What are the CHAS requirements?
Expect to provide: a health and safety policy signed or reviewed within the last 12 months, risk assessments and method statements, insurance evidence, access to competent health and safety advice, training records, subcontractor management procedures and accident records (or a statement confirming no RIDDOR-reportable incidents). How much does CHAS cost?

How will I be assessed?
You register and choose a level, complete the questionnaire and upload evidence, and a desktop assessor reviews it. Any queries must be answered before the certificate is issued and you are listed on the SSIP register.
How long does CHAS take?
It depends mostly on whether your evidence is complete and current when you submit it. Unsigned or out-of-date policies and missing accident records are the most common causes of delay.
