What is included in SafeContractor consultancy support?
Your project scope should be set by the gaps in your business, not by an inflated document list. A typical package can include the following work.
SafeContractor gap analysis and evidence map
We compare your intended assessment activities with the documents and records you already hold. You receive a prioritised view of what is usable, what needs revision and what is missing. This also helps avoid spending time on policies that are irrelevant to your scope.
Health & Safety Policy drafting or correction
We can structure the statement of intent, responsibilities and arrangements so the policy reflects the size and risks of your organisation. For five-plus employees, the policy must be written; for smaller businesses, we keep the evidence proportionate while still demonstrating how risk is managed.
Site-specific risk assessments and method statements
Where RAMS are required, we build them from the task information you provide: location, hazards, people at risk, work sequence, equipment, controls, supervision and emergency arrangements. Current SSIP criteria expect recent site or project-specific examples, so generic template-only evidence is a common false economy.

Discovery and deadline check
We establish why you need SafeContractor, the buyer or tender deadline, your headcount, the activities being assessed, whether subcontractors are used and whether you are starting from scratch or responding to an existing audit.
Document and evidence gap review
You provide the policies, RAMS, insurance, training records, COSHH information and other evidence you already have. We review it against the assessment scope and identify the minimum corrective work required.
Fixed scope and preparation work
We agree the deliverables before drafting begins. ESC Support's site states that its compliance packages are fixed-price with no hidden consultancy fees; your quotation should make clear what is included and what remains payable directly to SafeContractor.
Drafting, evidence collection and management review
We produce or revise the agreed documentation and collect the operational details needed to make it genuine. Your responsible manager reviews and approves documents because policies and RAMS must describe controls the business can actually implement.
Submission and audit-query support
We help organise uploads and responses. If the assessor requests clarification or extra evidence, we triage the action and prepare the corrective material within the agreed consultancy scope.
Handover for ongoing compliance and renewal
Once the application stage is complete, we identify the review dates and records you need to maintain: policy review, training expiries, insurance, RAMS, COSHH and subcontractor monitoring. SafeContractor certification lasts 12 months, so the system must remain live.
Can a consultant guarantee SafeContractor approval?
No responsible consultant can guarantee an independent audit outcome. SafeContractor decides whether the evidence satisfies its assessment criteria, and the decision is outside ESC Support's control.
What we can control is the quality of preparation: whether the policy is current and relevant, whether RAMS are site or project specific, whether the training evidence is complete, whether subcontractor controls are documented, whether insurance and company details are consistent, and whether auditor actions are answered with actual corrective evidence.
Our approach: approval-focused preparation without a misleading “guaranteed pass” promise. If a gap can be fixed before submission, it is cheaper to fix it before the assessor has to raise it.
Can SafeContractor accreditation be fast-tracked for an urgent tender?
ESC Support can fast-track the consultancy preparation where capacity and the quality of your source information allow. That can mean prioritising the highest-risk document gaps, producing missing RAMS, correcting the policy, organising evidence and responding quickly to an existing action sheet.
We cannot guarantee SafeContractor's independent review date or final certification date. SafeContractor publishes different review service levels depending on the plan purchased, and a faster plan does not remove the need to close genuine compliance gaps.

Which contractors do we support with SafeContractor?
SafeContractor is not restricted to one trade. The health and safety evidence changes with the activities being assessed, so sector familiarity matters. ESC Support's core market includes security, cleaning, facilities management and construction-related services, and the same evidence principles extend to electrical and mechanical contractors.

How are SafeContractor consultancy costs structured?
SafeContractor's scheme fees and ESC Support's consultancy fees are separate. The scheme currently advertises contractor plans from £540 per year, with higher starting prices for assisted or faster service levels; the final annual subscription is based on employee count and a one-off joining fee also applies.
Consultancy cost depends on the work required. A company with a current policy, good RAMS and complete training records needs a different scope from a contractor starting with no controlled documentation or one facing a multi-point audit action sheet.
Typical price drivers include:
- number of work activities and risk profiles being assessed;
- how many policies or procedures require drafting;
- number and complexity of RAMS and COSHH assessments;
- workforce size and quality of training evidence;
- subcontractor arrangements and monitoring controls;
- whether portal support or existing audit-action remediation is required;
- tender urgency and agreed delivery priority.
We recommend scoping the evidence first and quoting the defined corrective work rather than selling an arbitrary package that may include documents you do not need.

Can ESC Support fix an existing SafeContractor audit action sheet?

Do you write SafeContractor RAMS from scratch?

Does your consultancy fee include SafeContractor membership?

Do you support sole traders and businesses with fewer than five employees?
Yes. Smaller organisations are assessed proportionately, but they still need to demonstrate how health and safety risks are controlled. We can build a proportionate evidence set without forcing large-company paperwork onto a microbusiness.
